The Ultimate Umrah Guide 2026: Step-by-Step Rituals, Tips & Essentials

1 August 2026•By Safa Marwa Editorial

Performing Umrah is a transformative spiritual journey. Whether you are traveling for the first time or revisiting the Holy Sanctuaries, this comprehensive guide will walk you through every essential step.

1. Entering the State of Ihram

Before crossing the designated Miqat boundary, pilgrims must perform Ghusl (ritual purification), wear the Ihram garments (two unstitched white sheets for men; modest clothing for women), and recite the Talbiyah:

"Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka Laa Shareeka Laka Labbayk..."

2. Performing Tawaf around the Holy Kaaba

Upon arriving in Masjid al-Haram, enter with your right foot and head towards the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad). Perform 7 anti-clockwise circuits of Tawaf with devotion. After completing 7 rounds, pray two Rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim if space permits, and drink plenty of blessed Zamzam water.

3. Sa'i between Safa and Marwa

Proceed to Mount Safa, face the Kaaba, make heartfelt Duas, and walk 7 laps between the hills of Safa and Marwa, commemorating the devotion of Sayyida Hajar (AS).

4. Halq or Taqseer (Shaving / Trimming Hair)

To conclude your Umrah, men shave their heads (Halq - highly rewarded) or trim their hair equally (Taqseer), while women cut a fingertip length from the ends of their hair. With this, all Ihram restrictions are lifted!
